Shelby & Travis: A Golden Hour Farm Wedding in Eastern Washington
In the heart of Eastern Washington, where golden fields stretch like a warm quilt beneath an endless sky, Shelby and Travis’s wedding unfolded in the most magical way—rooted in family, steeped in tradition, and carried by laughter on a summer breeze.
The setting was Travis’s family farm, a place brimming with history and heart. The land itself felt alive—quietly humming with stories held in the trees, the soil, and the wind. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where every detail matters because every detail means something. The old poplar tree that stood at the heart of their ceremony wasn’t just a pretty backdrop—it was a living witness to years of family memories, now standing tall as Shelby and Travis spoke their vows beneath its branches.
Before the big day, the couple shared private vows under the evening sky—an intimate moment that belonged only to them. That quiet connection became the thread that tied everything together: this wasn’t just a celebration of love; it was the weaving of two lives into one story.
Shelby wanted to feel like a fairy on her wedding day, and she absolutely did. Her gown floated as if caught in a dream, delicate and otherworldly, mirroring the lightness of her joy. There was something soft and untamed about the whole day—like walking through a memory as it was being made. Wildflowers danced in the fields. Laughter spilled like music from every corner of the farm. And as the sun dipped low, the air turned gold.
Adding a playful twist rooted in Southern lore, they buried a bottle of bourbon a month before the wedding — a tradition said to ward off rain and bring good luck. When they unearthed it the night before their wedding day, Shelby and Travis set it aside and exchanged their private vows. The next day during their ceremony they took shots they took together, poured into WSU shot glasses in honor of their college days (go cougs!). It was a joyful, lighthearted moment shared with their people.
Their day started inside Travis’s grandparents’ house—a cozy space filled with family history, where generations have gathered in love. Getting ready there felt like the perfect beginning. From the first look among the trees to the heartfelt first dances with each parent, every beat of the day felt intentional and full of emotion.
At sunset, we wandered the dirt road that leads out toward the rest of the farm, wrapped in golden light. It was the kind of sunset that only happens in this part of the state—soft, warm, impossibly beautiful. Shelby later changed into her second dress, a beautifully altered version of her mother’s wedding gown. That dress carried the weight of legacy and love, dancing alongside her as the night took over.
The celebration ended around a bonfire, guests throwing on sweatshirts, passing around ice cream sandwiches from Ferdinand's, a WSU institution. It was casual, cozy, and perfectly them.
With a mix of film and digital, their gallery tells this story in full - every laugh, every breeze, every teary smile frozen in time. These photos don’t just document a day; they carry feeling. They reflect what happens when two people say yes to each other in a way that’s entirely, authentically theirs. Shelby and Travis’s wedding wasn’t extravagant or over-the-top and it didn’t need to be. It was meaningful. It was joyful. It was theirs. And honestly, isn’t that what we all want? A wedding that feels like us, rooted in who we are, surrounded by people who get it, wrapped in moments that become lifelong memories.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels like home, I’d be honored to tell your story. Whether it’s under a tree that’s seen generations grow or on a quiet road lit by sunset, let’s make something beautiful together.
